Introduction to VISCERIUM

VISCERIUM

One timeline. Four eras. Infinite stories.

A single wounded world carried from steel and superstition to orbital war. Kingdoms become republics, ritual becomes science, and old warnings survive long after their meanings are forgotten.

What will you discover first?

The timeline

The same world keeps changing its explanation.

CITADEL, SMOG, NEARSIGHT and ENTROPY are not alternate settings. They are four moments in one continuous history. Every age inherits the victories, damage, institutions and lies of the one before it.

The place

The horror needs something worth threatening.

Errack is the heart of VISCERIUM: a life-sustaining world of savage beauty, ecological extremes and enduring human civilisation.

Jungles, highlands, deserts, archipelagos and storm-lashed cities stretch beneath twin moons and faint planetary rings. People farm, trade, pray, swear, fall in love, wage stupid wars and teach children warnings whose original reasons have been forgotten.

VISCERIUM is dark, but darkness only matters because there is something to lose. Wonder, culture, humour, ordinary work and stubborn hope are not relief from the setting; they are what gives its violence weight.

People live here

History is not waiting for the plot.

Civilisations rise, fracture, trade, marry, conquer and remember. Their banners outlive rulers; their customs outlive the reasons they began.

A farmer in CITADEL, a factory worker in SMOG, a Pathfinder in NEARSIGHT and a ship crew in ENTROPY all inhabit the same history from radically different distances. The cosmic struggle matters because ordinary people keep having lives underneath it.

The threat

The monsters are real. The explanations arrive later.

Across history, humanity repeatedly meets things it cannot explain cleanly. The safest place to begin is with what people inside each era can witness, survive and misunderstand.

Symbol associated with the Nadirs

The recurring wound

Myrkild

Across the eras they are called beasts, blights, demons, organisms and incursions. Their forms adapt. Landscapes and bodies change around them. Local folklore may understand the danger long before any institution understands the cause.

A CITADEL hunter can be right for the wrong reason. A NEARSIGHT analyst can be wrong with better instruments.

Something more precise

Beyond the firelight

Some evidence is too deliberate to fit the Myrkild. Impossible structures, repeating patterns and interventions become harder to dismiss as humanity's instruments improve.

There are deeper answers in VISCERIUM. The introduction does not hand every century the knowledge of the last.

The Wyrd

Every gift is a wound. Every miracle a curse.

Power is physical here.

Resonance is vibration, pressure, distortion and consequence made intimate.

Across history, humanity changes the vocabulary around it. Sorcerer becomes Resonant. Sacred chamber becomes laboratory. Folk warning becomes operating procedure. The force underneath those names still makes matter yield in ways matter should not.

Its presence is sensory: bass through the chest, surfaces trembling out of rhythm, prismatic fringes bending around impossible forces. The body of the Resonant is part of the act. Power has exertion, risk and aftermath.

The scale of the story

The world is enormous. The stories do not have to be.

Most people in VISCERIUM will never meet a false god. They may spend their entire lives dealing with the consequences of somebody else's war with one.

A Pathfinder trying to bring three people home can matter. A soldier surviving one trench can matter. A family racing a quarantine closure can matter. A crew deciphering one impossible transmission can matter.

The larger world continues around them. Nations bargain. Institutions fail. Old lies acquire new uniforms. Victories create consequences for people not yet born.

The breadcrumbs never hide canon. They simply assemble a useful first path through a setting much larger than one introduction.
